Chattanooga Dance Companys Nooga Nutcracker
Chattanooga Dance Theatre’s ‘Nooga Nutcracker brings new life to a classic ballet. Set in present-day Chattanooga, the performance includes a variety of dance styles to create a modern, relevant, entertaining night at the theatre. The ballet starts with Clara’s birthday party that happens to fall on Christmas Eve. The Christmas themed party includes colorful costumes, lively dancing and comical family situations. Clara gets many gifts including a nutcracker doll from her Uncle Drosselmeyer. That night after Clara goes to sleep she is awoken by a sassy Mouse Queen and her mouse posse. Luckily, Clara’s Moc dolls and new nutcracker doll come alive and help tie up and take away the Mouse Queen. After the battle, the Nutcracker Doll turns into a prince and takes Clara through the land of snow and around Chattanooga. The second act of the performance includes some of the highlights of Chattanooga; the Tennessee River, North Shore Carousel, Aquarium Fish, Choo-choo Riders, Southern Belles, and Lookout Mountain Gnomes. The final dance of the evening maintains the Nutcracker tradition of a Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier dancing the Grand Pas de Deux.
